I think I had God cornered with the eternal torture thing and you just did what is my pet peeve with religious apologetics. "Oh but it's just a metaphor" Is it really? How do you tell? How do you tell what's literal and what's metaphorical? Are you really sure it's not REAL fire and brimstone?! Unless the verse says it's just a metaphor, we have reason to worry. Because when he said he dropped fire and brimstone on people of Sodom for being gay, I don't think he meant he gave them mental anguish by making them look at images of straight people having sex. He DOES have access to real fire and brimstone! And brimstone!! Brimstone is too random and unpoetic to be a metaphor! Fire would be enough as a metaphor but fire..and BRIMSTONE!! That shxt is over-elaborate! We need to confirm this...or we're in for a rude shock. I mean you're going to hell thinking it's only going to be a mental anguish thing and you have dudes with horns trying to actually burn your ass down with fire.. and motherfucking brimstone!! I'm really really scared now.
Also, I wonder if the virgin birth is a metaphor for a pre-marital affair.
First of all, i do not believe that the laws of the old testament still apply. Free thinking folk going to hell? , free will came from God. Jesus himself worked on the Sabbath. The only old testament law Jesus kept talking about was that we only worship one God. His Father. Like a mentioned in another topic, Jesus didn't even mention homosexuality. As for idol worship, thats worshipping a god other than the Father. Name any religion where worship another god isn't prohibited, and it makes sense to me that it is. . . I'm not a religious apologetic. I dislike religion. I do however know whats written, and no where is it written that we will literally burn. Hell is made out of fire and brimstone (sulfur), which is hot, throughout the bible fire symbolizes judgement and punishment. I'm not saying Hell won't be exactly like it, but i am saying that no where is it written that we will burn. Metaphore, symbolism, or literal, i prefer to think that the same mercy God is known for, will show even in death and judgement. Hell was after all not made for humans. . . . .according to the beliefs of Jehovah Witness the Bible teaches that there is no Hell at all. Its a matter of opinion it would seem.
A virgin birth? Thats a whole new topic. If you wanna get all scientific, they apparently found a god gene that was passed on by Jesus to the children he apparently had. Making Mary a virgin and impregnated by God. Now what is really unlikely? A virgin birth or mini gods walking this planet, with Holy Spirit blood flowing through their veins? I can think of many things that makes way less sense than a virgin birth.
