Quote: outlaw: By Sunday, i mean the Sabbath. You see, God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day. We don't know WHY because God couldn't have been tired..but all we know is that's what happened. So you must set aside one day of the week to kiss his arse. That's one of the commandments. I don't know why god hates idol-worshippers..but boy, does he hate them! This is a really touchy subject with god. Apparently it's a violation of another commandment. "You shall not have any other gods before me..because my feelings are fragile and I tend to get reckless..and i have access to fire and brimstone!"
how u know that GOD hates idol worship? And what about the ppl who have to work on sundays too.see doing household work by women or men is a work .so u mean they all will go to hell?

Quote: outlaw: The wicked should be punished by all means, though 'wicked' needs to be redefined to exclude gays, pro-choice folk, those who wear condoms, those who work on Sundays, those who worship idols, etc.

I think I had God cornered with the eternal torture thing and you just did what is my pet peeve with religious apologetics. "Oh but it's just a metaphor" Is it really? How do you tell? How do you tell what's literal and what's metaphorical? Are you really sure it's not REAL fire and brimstone?! Unless the verse says it's just a metaphor, we have reason to worry. Because when he said he dropped fire and brimstone on people of Sodom for being gay, I don't think he meant he gave them mental anguish by making them look at images of straight people having sex. He DOES have access to real fire and brimstone! And brimstone!! Brimstone is too random and unpoetic to be a metaphor! Fire would be enough as a metaphor but fire..and BRIMSTONE!! That shxt is over-elaborate! We need to confirm this...or we're in for a rude shock. I mean you're going to hell thinking it's only going to be a mental anguish thing and you have dudes with horns trying to actually burn your ass down with fire.. and motherfucking brimstone!! I'm really really scared now.

Also, I wonder if the virgin birth is a metaphor for a pre-marital affair.
First of all, i do not believe that the laws of the old testament still apply. Free thinking folk going to hell? , free will came from God. Jesus himself worked on the Sabbath. The only old testament law Jesus kept talking about was that we only worship one God. His Father. Like a mentioned in another topic, Jesus didn't even mention homosexuality. As for idol worship, thats worshipping a god other than the Father. Name any religion where worship another god isn't prohibited, and it makes sense to me that it is. . . I'm not a religious apologetic. I dislike religion. I do however know whats written, and no where is it written that we will literally burn. Hell is made out of fire and brimstone (sulfur), which is hot, throughout the bible fire symbolizes judgement and punishment. I'm not saying Hell won't be exactly like it, but i am saying that no where is it written that we will burn. Metaphore, symbolism, or literal, i prefer to think that the same mercy God is known for, will show even in death and judgement. Hell was after all not made for humans. . . . .according to the beliefs of Jehovah Witness the Bible teaches that there is no Hell at all. Its a matter of opinion it would seem.

A virgin birth? Thats a whole new topic. If you wanna get all scientific, they apparently found a god gene that was passed on by Jesus to the children he apparently had. Making Mary a virgin and impregnated by God. Now what is really unlikely? A virgin birth or mini gods walking this planet, with Holy Spirit blood flowing through their veins? I can think of many things that makes way less sense than a virgin birth.

Quote: outlaw: Sigh. You're going to get me banned again. God hates idol worship because he can. The man with the fire and brimstone makes all the rules. Household work can wait another day. But God must have his weekly dose of praise and groveling ON TIME!. Or else...

Quote: outlaw: Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the ten commandments come from the old testament?
yes, you get the commandments and then there's the law. The commandments are more or less basic morals. Don't murder and so on. The law, is somewhat ridiculous. Like, don't sleep next to your wife when she's on her period, must i sleep outside once a month?

mutant_bunny 2011/07/22 13:58
Quote: outlaw: That's actually a good law. I was watching a Mitch Fatel standup yesterday. My girlfriend is on her period and she's like "I don't care if you don't care" and I'm like "I don't care let's do it!" Five minutes into it, I look down and..."I think I'm starting to care a little bit" /smiley
lol. . . Its like climbing a tree, all fun till you look down. And ey my man! Sis.

Quote: outlaw: Anyhoo, my point is christians always say the old testament doesn't count. But then they go on and start telling you how adultery and idol worship and coveting thy neighbor's wife is a sin. If the old testament doesn't count and the ten commandments come from the old testament, then these rules regarding adultery, idol worship, sabbath, using his name in vain etc don't apply.
I agree with you, Christianity is like a buffet table, Christians pick what they want. I pick the part where it says new contract. I pick to follow the moral and ethical laws that Jesus preached. Not the ridiculous. Whether i'm right or wrong doesn't really bother me, its how i see it.

mutant_bunny 2011/07/22 15:41
Quote: outlaw: In other words, you pick your own morals. There's something inside you that tells you what to pick and what to reject, helps you decide what's right and what's wrong. That inner moral compass will continue to do its job even in the complete absence of any outside influence, such as christianity.
i meant Christians pick which laws to follow. If they want to divorce they work their way around the moral laws of Christianity that is against divorce. Catholics worked their way around the ethical laws regarding idol worship. I did not mean the morals and values of the individual. No matter my religion my morals are set in stone, so yes in other words i choose my morals.

mutant_bunny 2011/07/22 20:05
Quote: outlaw: I'm just trying to understand it from the 'you can't have a set of values without religion' point of view. When you pick and choose - and all religious people do this - you are basically just brining your OWN individual moral yardstick (a product of your environment, upbringing, education, peers, society and parents) to the scriptures and you use that yardstick to decide what is right/convenient and what is wrong/unnecessary, what you agree with and what you don't. So all people choose their own morals, even those who claim they got it from Jesus. Because if that were the case, you wouldn't be able to pick and choose, you'd just parrot all the scriptures and teachings. Only a very few people do that and they are nutcases.
i agree. People who follow religion, are sometimes without morals. People who preach the holy books are sometimes without any morals. People have done many immoral and inhuman things in the name of religion. So yes, it comes from you. These morals have found a way into holy books and become sin. Then there are sins that has nothing to do with morals.

If satan created hell and u say that hell is a reward [of torment] for those who do satanic things.would satan create hell to destroy his own followers? And then, could it be God who created it and yet he is kind, loving and a lover of justice.would it be just for him to burn pple in hell?if no, it means neither God nor satan created the so called hell and so,everlasting torment does not exist
