Getting attracted is normal. And, very easy. Being serious about a person is serious business. True, nobody can know a person thoroughly after a 1000 dates: and even more. For that matter, it is impossible to develop a complete understanding even one lives with him or her for an entire lifetime. However, dating allows one to figure out whether the person one is with is compatible enough. Why is it so?

Brief knowledge isnt enough: Having a vague idea before a short-term fling if that is what you are looking for is fine. But if you wish to be serious, it is important to go out on dates and spend time with him/her. You guys can simply sit and chat, go out for movies, check out whether your interests match and figure out if you wish to be together in the long run.

Is sex the end of the world? : Mutual physical attraction is common. If both are willing, we are not going to sit in value judgment and tell whether sex thereafter is right or wrong. The decision depends on the people who are involved. But is it possible to be serious about a person who thinks of nothing beyond sex? It may and may not be, depending on what kind of person you are. Since you already know what you want from life, you must know how the other person feels.

Shortcomings: There is nobody on this planet who doesnt have shortcomings. Some people are inherently lazy. Some get frustrated very fast. Some think of changing jobs and even careers after every six months. You have your set of weaknesses as well. The big question that the two of you must answer is: are you okay with the weaknesses of each other? Or, is adjusting to them guaranteed to be a problem later?

Career goals: Many couples want to work, retire and spend their old age in peace. For some men and women, there is nothing called retirement. Most importantly, issues about the womans going back to work after a year of having a child do crop up since some men resist the idea. Other men are fine with becoming house husbands after the child is born so that women can pursue their professions. There are times when both the man and the woman are destined to have 14-hour weekdays at the workplace after getting married. Numerous questions need to be addressed, and their answers sought. That cannot happen within a week of knowing each other.

Being merely acquainted before taking that step isnt enough: as long as you are not okay with the idea of an arranged marriage. However, if you wish to marry a man or a woman of your choice, make sure that you know why you are serious about him or her first. Going out on dates is, therefore, the right and mature thing to do.:saharasamay
