THE SMALLEST HORSES IN THE WORLD

Did you know that the smallest horse in the world is not the Icelandip pony, nor the Shetland pony, nor the tiny horse from the Greek island of Skiros. It is the Falabella: a lilliputian-sized horse about the height of a dog, around 40 centimetres high. The Falabella breed was developed during the last century in Argentina, by Patrick Falabella, a vet who was an expert in genetics. The Falabellas were bred over a period of 70 years by inbreeding a small group of undersized horses originally discovered in the southern part of the country.
